12:04 -- Best Picture: "Birdman." Director Alejandro Inarritu jokes that the cast wants him give the acceptance speech because his English is bad! Inarritu says he prays that immigrants "can be trteated with the same dignity and respect as the ones who came before and built this incredible immigrant nation."
11:56 -- And the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role goes to...Julianne Moore for "Still Alice." Standing ovation!
11:54 -- Actor Matthew McConaughey announces the nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
11:50 -- Cate Blanchett announces the winner of the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role: Eddie Redmayne of "The Theory of Everything." The actor showed extreme excitement over his win. He thanked the Hawking family, his co-star Felicity Jones and his wife. He also told the audience that he and his wife were expecting a baby.
11:41 -- And the Academy Award for Achievement in Directing goes to Alejandro Inarritu for "Birdman!" The director thanks the star of his movie, Michael Keaton, and says he is wearing the actor's underwear!
11:36 -- Writer Graham Moore wins Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for "The Imitation Game." The movie is about the brilliant mathematician Alan Turing who broke German code during World War Two.
11:30 -- Best Original Screenplay Oscar goes to "Birdman" or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).Writer and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu accepted the award along with co-writers Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, Jr. & Armando Bo.
11:19 -- Lady Gaga sings a medly of songs from "The Sound of Music," 50 years after the release of that movie. Julie Andrews star of "The Sound of Music" gave Lady Gaga a big hug and thanked her for the tribute.
Then Andrews announced the nominees for Best Original Score. The Oscar goes to... Alexandre Desplat for "The Grand Budapest Hotel."
11:05 -- Oscar for Best Original Song goes to John Stephens (Legend) and Lonnie Lynn (Common) for "Glory" from "Selma." Both called on people to continue the struggle for civil rights in America. Many crying eyes in the audience, including David Oyelowo who played Martin Luthger King, Jr., in "Selma."
11:00 -- Singer-songwriter John Legend and hip-hop artist Common perform the Oscar nominated song “Glory” from the movie “Selma.”
10:50 -- Actress Jennifer Aniston of "Cake" and actor David Oyelowo announce the winner of Best Documentary. The winner is "CitizenFour," the story of the computer analyst Edward Snowden and the classified information he gathered at the US National Security Agency and then leaked to reporters.
10:47 -- Actor Terrence Howard gets emotional as he presents three of the nominees for best picture.
10:18 -- Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences speaks to the gathering at the Academy Awards ceremony. She says film industry members all have a responsibility to respect freedom of expression.
10:11 -- and the Best Animated Feature Oscar goes to..."Big Hero 6."
10:10 -- Zoe Saldana and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson present the nominees for best animated feature film.
10:10 -- Best Animated Short Film Oscar goes to "Feast." A movie about a man, his lovelife and his best friend, a dog.
9:54 -- Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Patricia Arquette! Speech goes political--equal rights and wages for women in America. Big applause from audience. Oscar winner Meryl Streep stands in support...

9:25 -- Best Live Action Short Film Oscar goes to "The Phone Call." Director Mat Kirkby and producer James Lucas accept the award, thanking their mothers who inspired them.
9:16 -- Oscar winner Marion Cotillard introduces the Oscar niminated song "Everything is Awesome" from "The Lego Movie." Tegan and Sara and the Lonely Island perform.
9:11 -- Best Foreign Language Film -- "Ida" from Poland. Director Pawel Pawlikowski goes on and on with acceptance speech but charms the crowd.
9:02 -- "Grand Budapest Hotel" honored again with the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hair Styling. Winners: Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier
9:00 -- "Grand Budapest Hotel" wins for Best Costume Design. Milena Canonero designer.
8:55 -- Musician Adam Levine sings "Lost Stars" from the film "Begin Again."
8:45 -- First winner of the night: Best Actor in a Supporting Role: J.K. Simmons!

8:35 -- A Harris and Anna Kendrick duet. Then Jack Black pops up on stage adding a rock sound to the piece.
8:30 -- Neil Patrick Harris welcomes the crowd for the Oscars, "where we honor the best and the whitest," he jokes. The entertainer is referencing the small number of minorities represented in the nominations.
8:20 -- Lady Gaga...always true to herself.
Tonight a big white dress...looking a little like a wedding cake-topper but the red gloves are wild.

8:14 -- Oscar winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow is pretty in pink. But the large rose on the shoulder looks a little like a strange growth.
8:12 -- Lupita Nyong'o is elegant as always. She is the winner of last year’s Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in “12 Years a Slave.”
8:10 -- Reese Witherspoon is striking in a black and white Tom Ford gown. Witherspoon is nominated for best actress for her performance in “Wild.”
7:50 -- Some of the fashion experts covering the red carpet are not excited about Kate Blanchett’s look tonight. They wanted something more dramatic than the black dress. However, they all loved the bright blue big necklace that adorned her neck.
Sienna Miller also went for a simple black dress from Oscar de la Renta. She is not nominated tonight although the actress was praised for her work in the much talked about film “American Sniper.”
7:30 PM -- Watts is wearing Armani. Also beautifully dressed tonight is singer John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Tiegen. John Legend sings the Oscar nominated orginal song, "Glory" from the movie Selma.
7:14 PM -- In every life a little rain must fall and that is what is happening on the Academy Awards red carpet right now in Los Angeles, California.
But a few rain drops did not take the shine off actress Naomi Watts who shimmered in a black and silver.
